Trick or Treatin’ Tips

Tuesday, October 26th, 2010

Halloween is on Sunday this year and we wanted you to have a few reminders when trick or treating:

-all children should have an adult along. Adult supervision is necessary to that tricks don’t become serious.

-we haven’t had a  snowfall yet, however, be sure and dress warm! Fingers and toes seem to be the first to get cold. It is not unusual to see tu-tu’s over snowsuits in our neighborhood.

-the time change happens this weekend which means that Halloween will seem even darker than usual. Be sure and wear something reflective and carry a flashlight or glow stick.

-no trick or treating after 9 PM. If the porch light is on, its a go.

Have fun and be safe!

And remember-our Halloween gear is 40% off!

Warm Feet Tips

Saturday, October 23rd, 2010

Over the last few days we have seen a real surge in winter boot buying. Our Bogs boots representative came in and gave our staff a clinic on how to fit boots and keep little feet warm. His ideas were some that we have known but it seems like an appropriate time to reiterate them:

1. Don’t wear cotton socks inside boots when you want warm feet. Feet have a tendency to sweat and cotton does not wick the moisture away. Cotton does not hold the heat and becomes very cold, very quickly. The old adage, cotton kills, is true. Wear a good quality wool or polypro sock.

2. Be sure that the boots you buy don’t “just fit.” Buy them at least a size or two larger than the shoe size. Tight boots are cold boots. Also, please remember that children’s feet grow quickly. What fits just right in September will probably not work in April.

3. Be sure the feet are warm when you put them in the boots. Boots are insulators, whether for hot or cold, they are made to keep the same temperature.

Warm feet are happy feet!

Safety Recall

Wednesday, October 20th, 2010

Tomorrow morning Graco will announce a recall on older versions of the Quattro Tour stroller and travel systems manufactured prior to November 2006 and MetroLite stroller and travel systems manufactured prior to July 2007. Immediately stop using these strollers and contact Graco to receive a free repair kit at :

There is an entrapment and strangulation danger , especially to unharnessed infants younger than 12 months.

Just a Reminder

Monday, October 18th, 2010

As last year’s snowsuits, boots and mittens are tried on to see if they are able to go one more season, there are bound to be growing bodies that need new winter apparel. There are children in our town who go without. If you have hand me downs, we will see that they will go to good homes and to children who really, really need them. Keep this in mind when cleaning out your closets.

Thank you in advance.

Home and Family

Saturday, October 16th, 2010

The sky is turning that pearly, opalescent gray that signals snow. The days are getting shorter and Alaskans are snuggling at home in preparation for winter. Family time is important and many families designate a “family night”-a special time to bond and create family memories. Kids and adults alike get into their warm, cozy pajamas and robes with maybe a bowl of popcorn to play games, read and just be together. This is what family is all about. Some of my fondest memories are of laid back evenings like these.

We have just received a terrific collection of fuzzy robes, pajamas and nightgowns as well as cozy slippers just perfect for these occasions. Brands include Striderite, Petit Lem, Hatley and Molehill.

Make a Mess

Monday, October 11th, 2010

Check out the Bogs Make a Mess Contest at www.bogsfoorwear.com. What kind of mess have you gotten into lately? We can think of all kinds of adorable pictures of kids making or in the middle of a mess. (Check our our baby photo contest in April.) Each month the Bogs footwear company gives away a free pair of Bogs boots to the winner of their contest. All you have to do to win is send a video or photo of a messy situation to their Facebook page. Check it out.

In the meantime, Bogs boots keep feet warm in wet and cold conditions. We have never seen anything quite like them. The neoprene is the secret. Thursday we should have another huge shipment in just in time for the snow that keeps getting closer and closer. See you soon!
