Infant Sleep Positioners-Warning from the CSPC
Wednesday, September 29th, 2010The Consumer Products Safety Commission is asking consumers to discontinue using infant sleep positioners. Over the past 13 years, they have received 12 reports of infants between the ages of 1 month and four months who died when they suffocated in them or became trapped and suffocated between a sleep positioner and the side of a crib or bassinet. Most of the infants suffocated after rolling from a side to a stomach position. Check out the article at cpsc.gov/spscpub/prerel/prhtml10/10358.html.
This is an incredibly sad situation for those parents. The hard part is that the sleep positioners are supposed to help prevent SIDS. It is a real conundrum. Please note that the sleep positioners have not been recalled.
