Just a Reminder

Monday, October 18th, 2010

As last year’s snowsuits, boots and mittens are tried on to see if they are able to go one more season, there are bound to be growing bodies that need new winter apparel. There are children in our town who go without. If you have hand me downs, we will see that they will go to good homes and to children who really, really need them. Keep this in mind when cleaning out your closets.

Thank you in advance.

Home and Family

Saturday, October 16th, 2010

The sky is turning that pearly, opalescent gray that signals snow. The days are getting shorter and Alaskans are snuggling at home in preparation for winter. Family time is important and many families designate a “family night”-a special time to bond and create family memories. Kids and adults alike get into their warm, cozy pajamas and robes with maybe a bowl of popcorn to play games, read and just be together. This is what family is all about. Some of my fondest memories are of laid back evenings like these.

We have just received a terrific collection of fuzzy robes, pajamas and nightgowns as well as cozy slippers just perfect for these occasions. Brands include Striderite, Petit Lem, Hatley and Molehill.

Make a Mess

Monday, October 11th, 2010

Check out the Bogs Make a Mess Contest at www.bogsfoorwear.com. What kind of mess have you gotten into lately? We can think of all kinds of adorable pictures of kids making or in the middle of a mess. (Check our our baby photo contest in April.) Each month the Bogs footwear company gives away a free pair of Bogs boots to the winner of their contest. All you have to do to win is send a video or photo of a messy situation to their Facebook page. Check it out.

In the meantime, Bogs boots keep feet warm in wet and cold conditions. We have never seen anything quite like them. The neoprene is the secret. Thursday we should have another huge shipment in just in time for the snow that keeps getting closer and closer. See you soon!

Infant Sleep Positioners-Warning from the CSPC

Wednesday, September 29th, 2010

The Consumer Products Safety Commission is asking consumers to discontinue using infant sleep positioners. Over the past 13 years, they have received 12 reports of infants between the ages of 1 month and four months who died when they suffocated in them or became trapped and suffocated between a sleep positioner and the side of a crib or bassinet. Most of the infants suffocated after rolling from a side to a stomach position. Check out the article at cpsc.gov/spscpub/prerel/prhtml10/10358.html.

This is an incredibly sad situation for those parents. The hard part is that the sleep positioners are supposed to help prevent SIDS. It is a real conundrum. Please note that the sleep positioners have not been recalled.

Important Tips for Travelling with Baby

Monday, September 20th, 2010

Alaskans travel alot and the easiest way is by air. We just ran across a great article at babyproductexperts.com (under the safety and recalls tab) for traveling with small children. Whether choosing your flight, packing, checking in or questions about airport security, this site has some great suggestions. I wish that I had followed some of these when I was traveling with my children Check it out!

PS-Please note that Junior Towne is five star rated by this site!

Christmas Dresses

Saturday, September 18th, 2010

Our holiday party dresses are starting to roll in and they are beautiful! These special little girls in Atlanta have a very special grandmother who bought these Biscotti dresses almost before we unpacked them! We also have our Christmas paper out and we’re ready to wrap (or is that rap?)

Booster Seats for Cars and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety

Thursday, September 16th, 2010

There have been some major advances in boosters over the last few years. It is well known that boosters are better at fitting lap and shoulder belts on four to eight year olds to restrain them in a crash. One of the things that we love about Britax is the fact that for their carseats as well as their boosters are tested “in house” using the governments test protocol to help them evaluate the products they are designing.

The Institute for Highway Safety just came out with the new booster ratings-the Britax Frontier 85 (combination highback) was at the top of the list of “Best Bets.” Check out the information www.iihs.org. It was surprising to see some of the ones on the “Not Recommended list.”

We always say that one trip to the doctor’s office (or worse) pays for the difference in price of a well fitted, top rated carseat.

Coloring Contest

Saturday, September 11th, 2010

Our judges had a really, really tough time deciding the winning entries in our Alaskan animal coloring contest. This little girl chose her dream dress with her gift certificate. Look at that happy smile! We had lots of entries and we thought that they were all “winners.” Thank you to all who entered.
